Emmaus Counselling
It was in the early 1980’s that Christians, Ted and Shirley Moss invited several counselling service representatives to a meeting at Stoke Church Hall. The aim, was to figure out how they could make counselling available to everyone without the cost of therapy being an issue. The outcome resulted in the birth of Emmaus Counselling.
The vision was (and remains) to meet the demand of anyone who may need professional care and support. The name Emmaus was chosen to indicate a healing journey, from ‘hopelessness to celebration’ as described in Luke 24:13 (The Bible). Some years later in 1996, Emmaus grew and was formed into a charity, namely, ‘The Moss Trust’.
Emmaus is a Christian organisation serving the community as a group of professionally trained and qualified counsellors. We have students in their final year of training offering their support. Emmaus upholds ethical practice in adherence to the BACP guidelines and safe practice.
A Social Enterprise
As a social enterprise, the Moss Trust (Emmaus Counselling) depends on generous donations from churches, church communities, sponsors, partners, and full paying clients. Our counsellors give of their time which enables us to offer a sliding-scale (rate) and meet the needs of those who can not otherwise afford counselling. We welcome your generosity!
